Media Diary: October 2016

As noted earlier this year, I’m keeping a media diary for 2016. These are my October findings:

  • In October, I rated 20 films, 1 book, 2 plays, 12 seasons of television, and 9 albums.
  • The average rating (out of 5) is 3.70, which is way above average for the year.
  • By medium, plays (4.25) has the highest rating.
  • The best of the month:
    • Film: Manchester by the Sea
    • Book: “Perfect Days” by Raphael Montes
    • Music: “Sciences Nouvelles” by Duchess Says
    • TV: High Maintenance, Season 1
    • Play: “Perestroika” by Tony Kushner

Hoo-boy, I watched a lot of TV in October. The fall TV season is back, now in full swing, which means I have more opportunities for TV over, well, everything else. As a corollary, I also watched some of the worst TV I’ve seen this year (HBO’s Divorce is unpleasant to a fault). Since end of year lists are fast approaching, maybe I’ll do a lead-up and include my worst picks of the year for 2016. That would be a fun serving of haterade, right?

Year to date totals:

  • 165 films, 24 books, 66 seasons of television, 109 albums, and 10 plays
  • Total average: 3.51
  • Averages by medium:
    • Films: 3.4
    • Books 3.5
    • Music: 3.53
    • TV: 3.67
    • Theater: 4.05 (unchanged)
